BriefRate field guide / Design pricing

Freelance design pricing calculator

A design project should be priced around a defined outcome and deliverable set. Count the concepts, formats, sizes, feedback rounds, and production requirements before calculating the fee.

01

Define the design deliverables

List the exact outputs: identity concepts, logo variations, page designs, campaign assets, illustrations, presentation slides, or production files. Include quantities and final formats instead of writing only “design support.”

02

Estimate exploration and production

Separate research and concept development from refinement, adaptation, production, meetings, and handoff. A project with one final mark may still require substantial exploration before that mark is chosen.

03

Price revisions explicitly

State how many consolidated revision rounds are included, who consolidates feedback, and what counts as a new direction. Unlimited revisions turn a bounded design project into open-ended availability.

04

Calculate the fee

Example24 hours × $80 = $1,920 labour. Add $120 in licensed assets and a 10% labour buffer of $192. Suggested project price: $2,232.

05

State usage and handoff

Name the supplied file formats, ownership or licence terms, third-party font and asset obligations, archive period, and any implementation work. Pricing should match what is actually being created and transferred.
